Rabideau Architecture

Rabideau Architects was founded in 1992 to serve the needs of Builders and Developers and those other professionals who are looking to build and maintain a portfolio of real property. Over the years, our partners in the building industry have engaged us in the design of a variety of military, government, and healthcare facilities, but our core competencies are in the areas of multiple family dwellings, mixed use community master planning, hotels, and commercial real estate.

Rabideau Architects has completed over 378 projects worth almost two billion dollars. We accept ten to fifteen commissions a year and a typical project is in the five to ten million-dollar construction cost. Our service area is Vermont, New Hampshire and Northern New York. We are very proud of the relationships we have built with our clients, some lasting decades and spanning many projects.

The Process

We are expert in multi-family housing, hotel design, large-scale wood framed construction, complex multi-phase master planning and design, and structured parking. Our outstanding skills include virtual modeling and 3D representation, project representation and permitting, and energy modeling.

Design Philosophy

Gregory Rabideau

I love solving complicated puzzles. Difficult programs, or challenging sites, or sometimes a skeptical public can get in the way of a good project. Solving those problems and removing those obstacles is my idea of fun. You will not find anyone better at representing your project before official boards and overcoming restive neighbors.

I also love the process of building, and have forged a great deal of respect in the builder community by staying open to ideas and by keeping well informed about changes in law and technology. Most of all, I enjoy sharing the creative process with our clients, and the bonds of friendship that grow out of that shared effort.

My contributions to the team are in the area of Design, Master Planning, Site Design, Real Estate Finance, Permitting, and Construction Phase Services.

Allan Spencer

Allen joined me twenty-three years ago where I rescued him from his job as a broom operator for Russell Construction. He has never stopped improving, and investing his own time in learning each new wave of technology and software. Allen produces the incredible rendered images we use to explain and promote our client’s proposals. Allen really knows how things go together and he is an excellent resource on energy code compliance.

Allen has tackled the working drawings on some of our biggest and most complicated projects, like Homewood Suites in South Burlington, or the Fairfield in Waterbury Vermont.

Emily Mack

Emily is our in house style curator. The fun part of her job is scanning the design media and assembling inspiration, the stepping off point for our discussions about design. The outcomes have been amazing including a beautiful custom home at Marble Island and the charming Raevin Meadows in Shelburne, Vermont.

Emily and I often collaborate on the early design of our complex master plans. She is skilled using Revit modeling software and helps translate my early sketches into Sketch Up.

Tyler Cote

Tyler spent a part of his youth assembling metal buildings for Cameron Construction. That practical experience combined with his professional education from Philadelphia University sums Tyler up nicely, practical and knowledgeable. He is passionate about energy efficiency and is part of every debate we have in the office about building codes. He is our resident expert in light industrial construction and a good resource for information about framing with engineered wood products.

Tyler has been essential in the realization of our most innovative mixed use, mixed income, mixed density planned communities. Tyler developed the individual building plans from concept to construction documents at Rye Meadows in South Burlington, and at Creek Side in Hinesburg.

Never get into a gardening competition with Tyler. He will beat you.

Our Method

We don’t think of design as something we do for clients, but rather as something we do with our clients. It is a collaborative process we call co-creation and it informs all that we do. You have a vision, and we have a unique set of skills to help you realize that goal. We don’t let our egos get in the way.

Our portfolio is as diverse as our client base, with our projects ranging from traditional to modern. However, we strive always for a look that is timeless, and avoid trendiness.
